Diving Komodo with dragon dive

Dragon Dive is well known worldwide for being a professional, secure, quality-oriented dive shop that will guarantee a fun and safe day diving. Our unique and experienced staff are trained to offer the best dive trips in the world-renowned Komodo National Park.

To ensure safety our dive groups are always kept small with a maximum of 4 to 5 divers per group. We arrange diving groups according to certification and experience level to make sure both new and experienced divers leave us feeling satisfied.

As passionate divers ourselves we are well aware of the impact on this fragile ecosystem and our mission to protect this underwater haven is at the heart of what we do. We have opted to use wooden slow boats instead of speed boats due to the lower emissions and increased comfort for guests. We always provide briefings on how to enjoy the national park with minimal impact on the environment.

As we spend a lot of time underwater here we also engage with local conservation groups to document the wildlife, in particular our incredible local manta ray population. We also encourage our dive guides and instructors to remove any rubbish we may come across on the dive sites.

A diving day in komodo

We start the day early when diving central and north Komodo dive sites so that we can jump in before the other dive boats also leaving Labuan Bajo. A typical day would look like this:

06:45 – Meet at Dragon Dive Hotel
08:30 – First dive
11:00 – Second dive
12:30 – Lunch
14:00 – Third dive
17:30 – Return to Dragon Dive Hotel

As well as a healthy Indonesian lunch we provide snacks on board like donuts, freshly baked bread and bananas. Also included on the boat are refreshments such as water, tea, coffee and soft drinks.

Our goal is to provide you with amazing memories underwater, but we also hope that you enjoy your time on the boat socialising with other guests and our diving guides and boat crew.

Diving komodo national park

The diving in Komodo National Park is world-class. Divers here are treated to an incredible variety of species from unique macro to giant marine life, so there is something for every diver to enjoy.

The national park sits in the heart of the coral triangle so we can explore an incredibly diverse range of over 200 species of coral. There isn’t many places in the world which can boast such healthy reefs, and the colour and sheer abundance of life is sure to impress even the most experienced divers.

The waters that surrounds Komodo and Rinca islands boasts a population of over 1000 manta rays as well as eagle rays, devil rays and marbled rays. We often see several reef shark species, as well as over a 1000 species of reef fishes. If you are lucky you may even spot elusive marine mammals such as dolphins and dugongs.

For the divers who are excited by the weird and wonderful, Komodo is also home to a huge variety of small marine life. The reefs and sands of Komodo are home to some rare macro species such as hairy shrimps, flamboyant cuttlefish, frogfish, a huge range of nudibranchs, a few different types of octopus and so much more!

North Komodo

Sharks, school of fishes  and dive site with strong currents

The north is about 2h30 sailing from the port of Labuan Bajo. The best-known sites are Castle rock, Cauldron (the shotgun), Golden passage and Crystal rock.

We go every day on request from May to November.

Central Komodo

Sharks, manta rays and stunning reefs.

The most complete area in terms of dive sites that we dive the most.
Our favorite sites are Siaba Kecil, Tetawa Kecil, the famous Batu Bolong, Mawan and Makassar Reef for its manta rays and our favorites are Police Corner and Pengah.

South Komodo

Macro, Walls, unbelievable topography.

Be careful with the South, some will stop at Padar (for the day), and the liveaboard (Shenron) will go to the South of Rinca and Komodo. The water is much cooler, and visibilities can be reduced to 10-15m. The most beautiful sites are yellow wall, end of the world, cannibal rock and Manta alley.

Equipment Included

We only use well-maintained, top-end dive gear from established brands. Gear rental is included in the cost at no extra charge. We always dive with dive computers for both our guests and guides.

We are proud to present our custom-designed diving boat.
We believe it is our duty to be as efficient as possible to minimise negative impacts on the local environment, which is why we avoid using energy-intensive speed boats.

The layout of our boats prioritizes comfort, space, and safety – we believe this is the most pleasing and incredible way to experience the breathtaking beauty of the Komodo National Park!
We have three custom-designed dive boats; Two daily boats: Shiryu & Smaug, and Shenron, our liveaboard boat for Komodo with two double cabins and dorms setting.
Following all requests, we had our speed Boat, “Seiya”, for daily exploration on remote dive sites. With 500 Hp, let’s go everywhere.

The burly wooden diving boats are perfect for handling the intense weather conditions of the park.
They were redesigned in 2021 with safety in mind and with everyone’s enjoyment and comfort.
All our boats offer a shaded seating area for your breakfast and lunch.

Upstairs we have a sundeck area furnished with bean bags and loungers for you to relax on between dives – enjoying the stunning views of Komodo National Park. All our boats have marine toilets and freshwater showers. The dive deck area of all our boats is spacious, located at the back and the front of the boat, making it easy to set up your scuba diving equipment.
