Why your Komodo dive boat really matters
In Komodo, the quality of your experience depends heavily on the boat you’re on: number of divers, comfort, logistics on board and safety.
Small groups, more enjoyment
Our boats are organised to host max. 15 divers, far from the 25–35+ diver “cattle boats”. The result: more space, less waiting time, and a pace that matches your level.
Guides & crew who have time for you
Fewer divers per guide means more time for detailed briefings, personal tips and calm management of Komodo’s sometimes strong currents.
Lower impact on the park
By limiting the number of people on board, we reduce the pressure on reefs and marine life. A way to enjoy Komodo while keeping it healthy.
Dragon Dive vs mass-market operators in Komodo
Many operators focus on volume. We chose the opposite approach: a private fleet, small groups and modern comfort, to get the best out of Komodo National Park’s dive sites.
✅ Dragon Dive – Private fleet
- • Boats not shared with other centers.
- • Max. 15 divers per boat.
- • Fixed crew who know the sites.
- • Well-maintained, regularly renewed gear.
- • Logistics designed for photo & video divers.
- • PADI 5★ dive center on land.
⚠️ Mass-market operators
- • Boats often shared between several centers.
- • 25–35+ divers on board.
- • Less space and more waiting time.
- • Limited comfort, gear sometimes outdated.
- • Harder to adapt pace to each diver’s level.
- • Higher impact on the dive sites.

How to choose your Komodo dive boat
Day trip or liveaboard, small groups or big boats: the boat you choose will shape the quality of your Komodo diving experience.
Why choose a private small-group boat
In Komodo, currents can be strong and dive logistics require proper organisation. On an overloaded boat, it’s much harder to manage different experience levels, expectations and comfort.
By deliberately limiting our boats to a small number of divers, we can adapt dive sites, timing and profiles to your experience. You get the most out of iconic spots like Batu Bolong, Castle Rock, Manta Point or Siaba Besar.
Fewer people on board also means more space to keep your gear dry, rinse your equipment, prep your camera or simply relax between dives.

Shiryu, Smaug or Shenron – which boat is right for you?
If you stay in Labuan Bajo and want to dive on day trips, our Shiryu and Smaug boats are made for you. You leave in the morning, enjoy 2–3 dives on North & Central sites and return in the late afternoon to your hotel or our dive resort.
For those who want to live Komodo 24/7, Shenron Liveaboard lets you sleep on board, wake up next to the sites and link dives without coming back to shore. Ideal to cover North, Central and South depending on the season.
Our team will help you choose the right boat and program based on your experience level, time in Komodo and travel period.

FAQ – Komodo dive boats with Dragon Dive
How many divers do you take on your boats?
We limit our day boats like Shiryu and Smaug to around 15 divers. This keeps group sizes reasonable per guide and avoids the “cattle boat” feeling.
Do you share your boats with other dive centers?
No. Our fleet is 100% private for Dragon Dive guests. You won’t end up on a boat shared between multiple operators.
Do your boats have toilets and showers?
Yes. Our boats feature marine toilets and fresh-water showers so you can rinse off the salt and stay comfortable throughout the day.
Is Nitrox available on board?
Yes. Nitrox is available on our boats for certified divers (included or as a paid add-on depending on the package). We can also train you for the Enriched Air Nitrox specialty.
What’s the difference between a day trip and a liveaboard?
On a day trip, you leave Labuan Bajo in the morning and return late afternoon after 2–3 dives. On a liveaboard, you live on the boat for several days and can do 3–4 dives/day on more remote sites, with minimal travel time.
How can I book a spot on your boats?
The easiest way is to contact us via our contact form or WhatsApp at +62 811-3823-490. Tell us your dates, dive level and whether you prefer day trips or liveaboard, and we’ll send you a detailed proposal.
